The following suggestions will help you have a healthy and safe Tet holiday with your loved ones
Wash your hands frequently
Keeping your hands clean is one of the most important steps to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
Use a tissue to cover your mouth and nose whenever you cough or sneeze. If tissues are not available, use the back of your hand or elbow to cover your mouth instead of your hand.
Stay Warm
Cold temperatures during Tet (Lunar New Year) can cause serious health problems, especially for children and the elderly. To keep your body dry and warm, wear several layers of loose-fitting, thin knitwear.
Relax
Don’t let Tet become a time of self-torture and financial hardship. To avoid overspending, balance work, family, and leisure. Take advantage of the help of relatives and friends. Maintain a relaxed and optimistic outlook, and ensure you get enough sleep.
Stay Safe While Traveling
Whether you’re going back to your hometown or traveling abroad, always prioritize safety. Don’t drive after drinking, and don’t let others drive. Always wear your seatbelt when driving or in the car. For babies, use an age-appropriate car seat and remember to fasten their seatbelt.
Keep an eye on the children
Children are very prone to accidents. Keep an eye on them while they eat and play. Put away dangerous toys, food, household items, and anything that could cause choking (like coins and candy). Learn about first aid for choking. Always remind children to be careful around electronic devices.
Prevent accidents
Accidents can happen anywhere, especially on holidays. Use a step stool when hanging decorations. Call a firefighter for any fire-related issues. Most residential fires occur during the winter months. Do not leave lights or candles where children or pets are present, or in walkways. Do not hang lights or candles on trees or near curtains. Do not leave stoves, fireplaces, or candles unattended. Do not run generators, heaters, or other oil or coal-fired appliances indoors.
Food Safety in Food Processing and Cooking
Preventing foodborne illnesses during Tet (Lunar New Year). When cooking, wash your hands and stovetop frequently. Do not place raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs near cooked food or on the table/serving surface. Cook food to the correct temperature. Refrigerate properly. Do not leave perishable food out for more than 2 hours.
